Every adventure comes to an end. From November 17 to 21, we experienced five intense days at IdeaSquare – the innovation space at CERN, a place where creativity, technology, and science converge to spark new ways of thinking.

Throughout the week, the 16 selected students from Álava, coming from different EHU degree programs, immersed themselves in an environment where thinking outside the box isn’t just encouraged — it’s the starting point.

Real challenges, real learning
During the experience, they worked on two challenges based on ethical dilemmas in Artificial Intelligence, combining creativity, critical thinking, and a deeply humanistic perspective to propose innovative solutions. This exercise pushed them to explore new perspectives, question assumptions, and imagine possibilities that go beyond the obvious.

Exploring CERN’s most fascinating corners
In addition to the ideation work, the group had the opportunity to discover some of CERN’s most iconic spaces, which left a profound mark on the experience:

⚛️ Antimatter Factory & Data Centre
🚀 SC – CERN’s first accelerator
🛰️ A tour through the facilities that have changed the course of science
💻 And even a visit to the world’s first cybercafé

Each visit added another layer of inspiration, showing how science and technology advance thanks to the curiosity and courage of those who dare to explore the unknown.

Looking ahead
We return home with new questions, new ideas, and valuable lessons that will accompany this group of young people throughout their academic and professional paths.
